Puppy Vaccines and Preventive Care

Preventive care, along with proper training, is the key to raising a healthy and happy puppy. To prevent many life-threatening infectious diseases, puppies require a series of several vaccinations. In addition, treatment for very common parasites is routinely given.

Below is our typical puppy preventive schedule. This schedule might be modified based on the age at which a puppy starts their vaccines.

7 Weeks Old

  • Health Examination
  • Distemper & Parvovirus Vaccine
  • Deworm for Roundworms
  • Intestinal Parasite Check (stool sample)
  • Start Heartworm & Flea Preventive (Sentinel tablet – to be given monthly)

10 Weeks Old

  • Health Examination
  • Distemper & Parvovirus Vaccine
  • Leptospirosis Vaccine
  • Bordetella Vaccine (if will be going to groomer or boarding facility in future)
  • Deworm for Roundworms
  • Heartworm & Flea Preventive Monthly (Sentinel tablet)

13 Weeks Old

  • Health Examination
  • Distemper & Parvovirus Vaccine
  • Leptospirosis Vaccine (2nd of series of 2)
  • Bordetella Vaccine (2nd of series of 2 if needed)
  • Heartworm & Flea Preventive Monthly (Sentinel tablet)

16 Weeks Old

  • Health Examination
  • Distemper & Parvovirus Vaccine
  • Rabies Vaccine
  • Intestinal Parasite Test (stool sample)
  • Heartworm & Flea Preventive Monthly (Sentinel tablet)
